Winter Garden's first settler was W.C. Roper in 1857. He came searching for a home-site from Meriwether County in Georgia. Roper bought 600 acres of land and settled down with his family. He built a grist mill, a saw mill, a sugar mill and a tannery, where he made shoes. Roper’s family was followed by many more families, and helped develop the site into a full-fledged town.

 

Today the Town of Winter Garden is grown and shows its heritage while providing residents with an active cultural and social networks. The Downtown area had been revived and now features a number of small business, restaurants, the heritage museum and a theatre.

 

Winter Garden offers historical neighborhoods in quaint locations nestled around the downtown area as well as new home communities close to the large outdoor Mall called Winter Garden Village at Fowlers Grove. Winter Garden is much more as a bedroom community for the Orlando metropolitan area as it creates the small town feel in a growing metropolitan area. Its close proximity to the busy city center and convenient location near the Turnpike and state road 408 makes this location convenient for a commute to major employers in the central Florida region.
