When people talk about Orlando they frequently omit that the city itself takes up
only part of the larger metropolitan area. What has been a number of disconnected
small towns has long grown into one of the fastest growing vibrant Metropolitan areas
of the Southeast. Urban sprawl has slowed down a bit during the recent years, but
the charming towns in the heart of Florida still draw its share of new residents.
There are communities that long have been an integral part of the region with a rich
history and a number of still existing landmark structures and institutions. Winter
Park, Winter Garden, Sanford and Longwood have historic downtown areas that bear
witness of times gone by. Restored storefront buildings showcase Colonial Architecture
and influences of a Southern art nouveaux trend that was so prevalent for the early
part of the 20th century. Homes in the region are found in a wide variety of price
ranges and architectural styles. Affordable living with no state income tax, combined
with the warm climate makes Orlando one of the top destinations.
