Central Florida is is the region between Tampa on the West side and Daytona Beach on the East side of the Southern Peninsular. The Region around Orlando had been a community of Winter homes with a largely agricultural economy until the beginning of the 20th century. The development boom came with the opening of Disney World in the 60’s, and brought a vibrant tourist economy with it. Today Orlando and the surrounding suburbs are the backdrop of a growing metropolitan area with a highly diversified economy. Some of the largest employers are tourist based like Disney, Universal Studios, Sea World and many hotels and resorts.  But also the Health industry has its footing in the economic fabric of the city. Traditionally the Region features an array of defence contractors such as Lockheed Martin and other High Tech companies which provide stable high paying jobs to the growing number of Floridians. The Economic Downturn has taken its toll on the level of employment, but the attractive location in the heart of the sunshine state kept Orlando on the map. It still maintains its to reign among the favorite destinations for vacationers and relocating families alike.
